$100 Room Challenge, Wk 4: My Kitchen- Hardware & More Paint
/Well, today’s schedule has not gone as expected, but the week has gone pretty great! BTW- this wraps up our 2nd to last week- EEEEK. Let’s start with a look at all the late-night painting my hubby and I accomplished (#parentlife)
It definitely paid off having babysitters in the mornings last weekend. I was able to paint the first cabinet door before she left- HUZZAH. The rest of the painting happened after my hubby and I put the kiddos to sleep each night. We managed 2 full coats plus touch ups with painting for an hour each night. Funny how much work you can accomplish on a deadline- Lol.
I’ll tell you what else is funny, though- Waking up to a McGiver paint drying rack on your kitchen stove! My awesome hubby gets full credit for this one! (Catch my reflection in the microwave? :D )
This has been the status of our home over the last week… I hope someone else is laughing, cause they have gone through this before. #lifewithoutagarage . Amazingly we did not have any cabinet casualties- PHEW.
Our dining table became our painting table, and our play mat become our picnic area. Seriously, I rolled out the picnic blanket, and everything. It was a bit inconvenient, but my boys loved it. My toddler was so excited to have a family picnic every day- SO CUTE.
Here’s a taste of our new base cabinet door and drawers. It’s making me smile already! Can you picture it?
The sink wall feels so much brighter, even though the affixed faux panels still need to be sanded and painted.
I started talking about my white paint debate last week. It’s so hard to make this decision without owning the white appliances yet. I want the uppers to be as white as the appliances, so nothing looks off-white or dirty. However, I don’t want it to look spaceship white or clinical. My kitchen lighting is warmer than the fluorescents at The Home Depot, so it’s a bit tricky. I posted my video in my Insta Stories, and thank you for your opinions! It’s like the designer in me knew the right choice, but somehow I couldn’t commit. But you’ll be glad to know, I sent my hubby out this morning to buy Frost by Behr this morning. Thanks for those who voted!
Paint no. 3 is the grey paint for the partition wall/ hallway. I decided on this medium grey. It’s a nice progression from the light grey I used in the boys’ bathroom and laundry room. It will also set off our light grey sofa nicely, and provide a clean and neutral back drop for our family photos in the hallway.
Phase 1 of my kitchen redesign is really all about paint. Have you noticed? Now that there’s only 1 week to go, let’s talk about the jewelry of the kitchen. I took a quick look at hardware on my last trip to the paint store. As much as I love seeing beautiful kitchens on Instagram with brass or gold hardware, I was planning to use a nickel finish. I used that in my boys’ bathroom which I recently completed, and was happy with that. I mixed in brushed brass accents, and that gave me my fix- Haha.
However, I came across this beautiful champagne bronze hardware, and kinda love it. I like that it has a more subtle finish that a shiny brass, but still has a warm hues. I am also drawn to this with more light, very light, mocha cabinets. I think it’s a nice complement to those warm tones. Thinking ahead to a faux white marble floor, white appliances, and probably a white countertop, I think the warm metallics will aid in keeping the white kitchen design from feeling cold or sterile. My hubby isn’t convinced yet, but he’s not opposed to it. Any thoughts?
Here is a comparison shot from the original kitchen vs. Wk 4:
