A New Year's Eve & Opalescent Nursery
/I always get a big excited as New Year’s Eve comes around, don’t you? It’s a time where we look back on the year that passed so quickly (especially as we get older!) and start to dream about the new year coming our way. Well, for me it really is about the new year, MY NEW YEAR. My birthday is right after New Year’s, so I kind of blend my celebration in with the new year. I like to think of myself as a New Year’s Baby- close enough, right? Well, that’s what inspired the design of this shimmery and opalescent nursery.
I found this opalescent party table decorated by @britandco on Pinterest. They had this party for NYE, and it this photo just called my name. I love the pastel colors and brass accents, and thought how fun this would be to inspire a nursery. I know it’s a little strange to think of champagne-popping New Year’s Eve translated into a baby’s nursery, but it’s all celebrating to me. Plus, your baby likes to drink, too. Just a different kind of bottle!
Take a look at this dreamy nursery collection I put together. I wanted to try a colorful crib in this design, and I adored this mint green crib from the moment I saw it. Next I wanted to add pastel pink, which is one of my favorite colors. People usually think of the walls when they want to make a big impact with color, but redirect yourself to find a fabulous rug. Your rug is basically another “wall space” in your room, so make use of it! I thought about a lavender changing table, but decided not to go overboard with too many pastels on main components in the room. Instead I found this party-ready tassel garland that incorporated all of my color palette, including lavender. I found this modern changing table with drawers and sleek chrome handles in bright white. Not every piece in your design has to be a showstopper, but white is always a great way to brighten a room and keep it feeling fresh and contemporary. On that note, I also added a white bookcase which is also great for toy storage and a place for your little one to sit one day.
Every lady out there knows that a NYE outfit needs some bling. The inspiration party table was decorated with brass geodes, and there were large silver confetti disks hanging on the wall. I chose to use jewels, and found some great artwork to hang as a feature above the crib. I added my favorite Martini side table in silver, from West Elm. (I have one in my son’s nursery, and I’m still jealous about it!) Surprisingly, I even found a metallic gold, polka dot bedding collection: fitted sheet, quilt, and changing pad cover. It just makes me smile… Lighting is another great opportunity for some bling, like the brass base on this tripod floor lamp.
My last concept in this room is inspired by the pink mylar, star balloons floating above the table. This shimmery star mobile will hang above your sweet baby, and blow gently in the wind and put her to sleep. I love a playful pillow in a nursery or child’s room, and this 3-piece collection of night sky pillows were the perfect, final touch.
So, lay back in the recliner with your new baby, close your eyes, & make a wish…
