$100 Room Challenge, Wk 1: My Workspace- Before Photos
/Welcome to Week 1 of my #100roomchallenge makeover!! This is my first time participating, and I’m am so excited to tackle my workspace at home. I discovered this challenge from @jonesvilleblog on Instagram, and read all the details on the blog from the creator @lemonslavendarlaundry . Sometimes it’s hard to see so many beautiful rooms on Pinterest, but it doesn’t mean you can’t do anything to your home on a budget. What can you do with $100? Probably more than we think! (Read more about it HERE ) The challenge is pretty simple: 4 posts in 4 weeks, makeover a room in your home for under $100. Challenge accepted!
I’m going to keep this pretty short and sweet this week. My kids have already been napping for 30min, so time is of the essence to get this published before they wake up- Eeek.
Here she is…..It can only go up from here, right? This has been the shared workspace for my hubby and I. And by shared I mean, i have a drawer on the right side of the desk. This has really been my husband’s place to pay bills, organize all our important paperwork, and his man-cave to watch some Netflix after the kiddos fall asleep. I think I’ve only blogged in that chair once in 3.5 years…
Even though I have my Masters in Interior Architecture, I’m taking a course to become a RESA Certified Home Stager, in hopes of branching into a Home Staging business. With that said, when I asked my hubby to really think about what kind of storage we need to incorporate to keep the desk clean, and our lives more organized, he came back to me with an answer I was totally surprised by. He said, “Nothing. I’ve really been thinking about it, and I think this should be your home office. Toddler S thinks of it as my desk, and he knows I already have a desk at my office, so I want him to see you at a desk working, too., building your own design business.” I was totally blown away by my sweet hubby.
With the new game plan, I decided I better incorporate the large bookcase adjacent to the desk. I’ve been trying to use it as a china cabinet to display some of our Judaica pieces and wedding photos, but it’s just never come together quite right. (Frankly, it’s been my nemesis- Arg). I think this is the perfect opportunity to start fresh, and extend my home office needs to the bookcase. And if there’s room for a few extra arts and crafts storage- even better.
You can see I already have my scrapbooking supplies in clear organizing drawers on the bottom shelf. The lower drawers are also full of rubber stamps, yarn, paint, felt, hole punches, etc. I recently reorganized the accessories to be on one level which definitely helped streamline the display, but it’s still falling flat with just a bunch of photos frames. I’ll miss having our non-kid friendly pieces out, but I think using this space for storage is more needed at this time. (Ahh- my toddler just woke up)
I am so eager to re-do this space because it’s been quite neglected, but I’m also excited because this is the first thing you see when you walk into our home. This is the back wall of our living room/great room. My goal is to design an organized workspace with style to make a wonderful 1st impression of our home, as well as motivate me as a new business owner.
I already have ideas in my head, but I’m going to leave you with that tonight. I have to leave for preschool orientation in 30 min. I can’t believe he starts preschool next week!
I’ll be posting behind-the-scenes on my InstaStories, so be sure to follow me and tag along! @decoranddiapers . And remember to follow along with the other participants. Let’s get ready for some fantastic design transformations!!
